DESCRIPTION:August 24th is the commemoration of the dukhrono of St. Mathia
 s the Apostle +64AD according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Ort
 hodox Church. \n\nMor Mathias was born to the tribe of Ruben in Bethlehem.
  While he is not mentioned directly\, it's evident from the words of St. P
 eter that he was with the Holy Apostles throughout the ministry of our Lor
 d Jesus Christ. (Acts 1:21-22). St. Mathias was chosen as the replacement 
 of Judas Iscariot who had betrayed Christ. When the Apostles & other belie
 vers gathered in the upper room of St. Mark's home (now Dayro d-Mor Marqos
 )\, St. Peter the chief of the Apostles called upon them\, telling them th
 at to fulfill the scriptures\, a replacement should be sought. Among the t
 wo candidates\, the lot was cast upon Mathias who was chosen to be numbere
 d among the remaining Apostles of our Lord. (Acts 1:15-22)\n\nHe preached 
 the Gospel in Palestine\, Abbyssinia\, Cappadocia\, Armenia & Georgia. Man
 y miracles were performed by him\, & even in the midst of ongoing persecut
 ion he was protected by the Lord. \n\nMor Mathias was stoned to death by t
 he leaders of the Jewish Sanhedrin in Jerusalem. Thus he attained the crow
 n of martyrdom. \n\nOh Mor Mathias Sleeho! Plead for us before God's thron
