DESCRIPTION:The commemoration of the dukhrono of St. Mathias the Apostle +
 64AD according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church. \
 n\nMor Mathias was born to the tribe of Ruben in Bethlehem. While he is no
 t mentioned directly\, it's evident from the words of St. Peter that he wa
 s with the Holy Apostles throughout the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  (Acts 1:21-22). St. Mathias was chosen as the replacement of Judas Iscari
 ot who had betrayed Christ. When the Apostles & other believers gathered i
 n the upper room of St. Mark's home (now Dayro d-Mor Marqos)\, St. Peter t
 he chief of the Apostles called upon them\, telling them that to fulfill t
 he scriptures\, a replacement should be sought. Among the two candidates\,
  the lot was cast upon Mathias who was chosen to be numbered among the rem
 aining Apostles of our Lord. (Acts 1:15-22)\n\nHe preached the Gospel in P
 alestine\, Abbyssinia\, Cappadocia\, Armenia & Georgia. Many miracles were
  performed by him\, & even in the midst of ongoing persecution he was prot
 ected by the Lord. \n\nMor Mathias was stoned to death by the leaders of t
 he Jewish Sanhedrin in Jerusalem. Thus he attained the crown of martyrdom.
