All groups are encouraged to participate in the normal work at either loʻi. We usually start visiting groups by shari ng stories of Kāne and Kanaloa\, a lesson on the present ahupuaʻa\, and the history of the site. Next\, a short hike/walk to the poʻowai will be taken to explain the water system and how the water is diverted to the lo ʻi. A quick lesson on the water cycle is also covered. Then the work begi ns with picking leaves for fertilizer\, hehihehi i ka loʻi\, puʻepuʻe a nd clearing the ʻauwai system. Visitors will learn the parts of kalo\, a long with a few ʻōlelo noʻeau and ʻōlelo nane.Ka Papa Loʻi ʻo Kāne wai\, with the Kamehameha Schools’ ‘Āina ‘Ulu program\, operates th is site in Punalu’u\, within the Ko’olauloa district of O’ahu. This loʻi\, covering approximately three acres\, provides an alternative site for people to visit and helps to maintain a sustainable level of use at Ka Papa Lo’i O Kānewai.
