 AZZ\, the Kurt Ribak Trio plays rumbias\, boleros and tangos from their la
 test album\, released May 17\, 2025\, along with some chestnuts from the c
 atalog. Kurt has five prior cds of originals and classic jazz standards to
  draw on.“Joyous\,” “grooving\,” “bluesy\,” “sophisticated\,
 ” and “masterful” all characterize bassist and composer Kurt Ribak's
  music\, but he himself his rollicking mix of bebop sophistication and bod
 y-moving grooves “Charles Mingus meets The Meters.” A Berkeley native
 \, Ribak parlayed his formative musical experiences as a cellist and membe
 r of the San Francisco Boys Chorus into a passion for the bass\, studying 
 at Cal Berkeley and Boston’s Berklee College of Music before returning t
 o the East Bay and establishing a reputation as one of the most respected 
 creative forces on the scene. This date is subsidized by Jazz in the Neig
 hborhood through its Guaranteed Fair Wage Fund.
