The mission will carr y four NASA science payloads\, two of them rovers. IM-3 will fly as a ride share mission with Vestri\, Astro Forge's mission to a Near Earth Asteroid and the first data relay satellite for NASA's Space Network Services (NSN S) lunar communications network. The NSNS system will feature five spacecr aft orbiting or in the vicinity of the moon to relay communications betwee n spacecraft at the Moon and the Earth. IM-3 will land in the Reiner Gamma region\, an area of the Moon with a magnetic anomaly.\n-\nIM-3 is Nova-C ’s third planned mission for NASA's CLPS program. The four investigation s that Intuitive Machines will deliver to Reiner Gamma are expected to wei gh approximately 92kg and include: Lunar Vertex (LVx)\, which is one of NA SA's Payloads and Research Investigations on the Moon's Surface (PRISM) se lections. It is a combination of stationary lander payloads and a rover th at will measure the magnetic field\, plasma environment\, and regolith pro perties in great detail. Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Explor ation (CADRE) is a team of mobile robots programmed to explore the lunar s urface\, collect data\, and map various areas of the Moon in 3D. ESA's Moo nLIGHT retroreflector is a laser retroreflector that reflects laser beams sent from Earth directly back to Earth. This allows for extremely accurate distance measurements between the reflector and the ground station. The L unar Space Environment Monitor (LUSEM) detects high-energy particles on th e lunar surface using a pair of apertures. LUSEM will track changes in the near-surface space environment when the Moon is inside and outside Earth' s magnetotail\, which is the trailing end of the magnetic fields that surr ound our planet and can act as a buffer for incoming radiation.\nThe Nova- C lander masses 1900kg and is a six-sided structure three meters high by t wo meters wide. 130kg is available for payloads\, and the spacecraft is eq uipped with six landing legs. Solar panels are mounted on two of the Nova- C’s sides as well as the top of the lander\, and fuel tanks are mounted on two other sides. The remaining pair of sides can be used to mount paylo ads. The lander is equipped with a methane and liquid oxygen (methalox) ma in engine used for all major maneuvers. The engine\, known as the VR-900\, is capable of producing 4000 N of thrust. Below the engine\, the Nova-C c an have a jettisonable ESPA ring that allows for up to 1 tonne of payloads that can fly to lunar orbit or elsewhere in the solar system.\n-\nDelayed from late Q2 2024\, early 2025 and Q4.
