Staff and vo lunteers are working to restore native and culturally important plants\, p eoples' connection to place\, and important ecosystem benefits–like eros ion control\, carbon sequestration\, and resilience to climate change–to Puʻulani through multistory agroforestry. Research at Puʻulani seeks to understand how different metrics of restoration success change over the t ransition from non-native forest to culturally important agroforest and to inform best management practices. Today\, the plants growing at Puʻulani feed people not onlyphysically but also spiritually and intellectually– through their use in lei\, lāʻau lapaʻau (traditional Hawaiian medicine )\, and ceremony. To learn more about the organization\, visit their webs ite https://kakoooiwi.org/puulani/.  Click here for a video to learn more about the incredible work being done at Puʻulani.Saturday community work days occur in the loʻi on the first Saturday of each month from 8:30am – 12pm.TO BE PREPAREDCome prepared for various tasks including→ weedin g invasive understory\, outplanting native shrubs and trees\, maintenance of loʻi and ʻauwai and pruning/removing small invasive trees. Wear cloth es that can get muddy for work in the lo'i. Closed-toed shoes are recommen ded\, long sleeves/long pants recommended but not required.
