 ález\, vocalistFounding member\, Edu was born and raised in Puerto Rico a
 nd moved to the Bay Area for graduate school in 2010. He made his theatric
 al debut in 2022 as a tenor in 42nd Street Moon’s production of Rodgers 
 and Hammerstein’s “A Grand Night for Singing”. More recently\, he pl
 ayed the role of the Pirate King in Lamplighters Music Theater’s 2024 pr
 oduction of “The Pirates of Penzance.” When he’s not on stage\, Edu 
 works in neuroscience\, helping to find new treatments for Parkinson’s d
 isease. Laura Ramos\, vocalistFounding member\, Laura was born and raised
  in Veracruz\, Mexico\, and grew up surrounded by music. Her father was a 
 skilled guitarist and well-connected to the local music scene of the era. 
 Bohemian nights at home were the norm where both her father and mother wou
 ld sing. It wasn’t surprising when Laura started singing in her elementa
 ry school’s choral ensemble and later became the lead vocalist for well-
 known music bands in her town of Córdoba. Ryan Friedman\, percussionRyan
  is a multi-disciplinary\, classically-trained\, percussionist with more t
 han 20 years of experience performing in musical theater\, jazz big band\,
  and symphony orchestras. He has performed in more than 60 theatrical prod
 uctions throughout the Bay Area\, and played at very high-profile venues l
 ike Davies Symphony Hall and Saint Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco\, a
 nd the Sorbonne in Paris!

 ert! Robert’s new album "Name &amp\; Form"  brings together the diverse
  influences of traditional Zimbabwean trance music with modern improvisati
 onal jazz.  The evening will feature Robert Heirendt on mbira (Zimbabwea
 n kalimba)\, Randy McKean on alto sax\, and Dan Plonsey on alto sax\, with
  guest Linton Hale on bansuri (Indian bamboo flute). From Robert: "Back i
 n late 2018\, while reading Eknath Easwaran’s translation of the Chandog
 ya Upanishad (an ancient Hindu scripture)\, I started to feel inspired by 
 this idea – looking deeply into one thing\, we can gain knowledge and in
 sight into so many other similar things."This concept got me thinking abou
 t going deeply into one direction as a composer and using like elements th
 roughout a series of pieces. In this case\, I somehow settled on two mbira
 s and two alto saxes – the like components of two mbiras bouncing off of
  each other and two alto saxes in dialogue with each other. Mei Lin added 
 pizz parts to all three of the primary compositions\, adding so much to ri
 chness of the overall “musical stew” I was going for!"The album will b

DESCRIPTION:Woman Life Freedom: Poems for the Iranian Revolution\, edited 
 by Bänoo Zan &amp\; Cy Strom\, is an anthology that marks a world-histori
 cal moment: the first ever feminist revolution. Woman Life Freedom is the 
 slogan chanted by the demonstrators in Iran. This anthology echoes that cr
 y. Its poems are reflections on the present moment\, denunciations of inju
 stice\, examinations of the poets’ own consciences\, laments for the fal
 len\, bitter curses\, prayers\, celebrations of life\, and visions of a be
 tter future. Forty poets and translators living on four continents are rep
 resented. The poems are ordered by theme: Beginnings\, Defiance\, Struggle
 \, Witness\, and Futures. The Introduction by Cy Strom sets the scene with
  a brief look at the situation in Iran and touches on themes of poetry\, t
 he arts and revolution\; the Afterword by Bänoo Zan\, titled “Against t
 he Tyranny of Home: A Call for (Self-)Critique\,” argues that honesty an
 d accountability are needed to initiate meaningful change in the countries
  that have been exporting immigrants and refugees\, as well as the places 
 where they have settled. With this brave anthology\, the editors and contr
 ibutors aim to raise awareness of the women’s revolution in Iran and dem
 onstrate to the world that this cause is alive and will not be put down.B
 änoo Zan is a poet\, translator\, essayist\, and poetry curator\, with ov
 er 300 published pieces and three books including Songs of Exile and Lette
 rs to My Father. She is the founder of Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night)\, Can
 ada’s most diverse and brave poetry open mic series (inception 2012). B
 änoo is the recipient of the 2025 Freedom to Read Award by the Writers’
  Union of Canada. Cy Strom has edited in different genres and sometimes la
 nguages and has had a role in developing professional editorial standards 
 and educational materials. He holds graduate degrees in early modern Europ
 ean history from Columbia University and has published in academic and oth
 er areas\, including a chapter in the dazzling art monograph Oscar Cahén.
