Some of the questions that we collective ly ask are:\n\nWhat are the fundamental blocks that make up our Universe?\ nWhat is the nature of dark matter and dark energy?\nWhat is the nature of the asymmetry between matter and antimatter?\nWhat was early Universe lik e?\n\nTo answer these questions\, particle physicists build software to si mulate and analyze what happens in particle physics detectors.\nThe CERN s oftware for experiments (CERN EP-SFT) group has participated in the GSoC s ince 2011. Since 2017 the program has expanded to involve the high-energy physics community under the umbrella of the HSF (HEP Software Foundation) .\nThis year\, we will hold the HSF/GSoC Training Orientation on May 11 wi th two main goals:\n\n\nProvide context for HEP computing and how GSoC par ticipants' work fits into the bigger picture\n\nProvide pointers to the re sources and events available through HSF Training\n\n \nThis event is ope n to all interns at CERN.\nThe workshop times are in CERN time.\n\nhttps:/ /indico.cern.ch/event/1671347/ LOCATION:Virtual END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Key4hep Discussion DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260512T070000Z DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260512T081000Z UID:289861315734 DESCRIPTION:Event URL: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1683763/\n\nhttps://in dico.cern.ch/event/1683763/\n\nZoom: https://cern.zoom.us/j/95444210901?pw d=Y2tERzQyY1RlMkRpZVBFbnVveDlSZz09 LOCATION:Zoom END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Training WG Planning Meeting DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260518T140000Z DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260518T150000Z UID:273496932079 DESCRIPTION:Event URL: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1671938/\n\nhttps://in dico.cern.ch/event/1671938/\n\nZoom: https://cern.zoom.us/j/62271073876?pw d=cFlvVCs1RUlVWTd4UlVJSFNQQU1LQT09 LOCATION:Virtual (CERN) END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Advance the HEP C++ Course - Interactive hands-on sessions  lead by the tutor will be supported by a number of helpers to ensure all participants are able to follow and understand the material.\nGiven the limited number of participants\, all participants are expected to attend the whole works hop.\nParticipants are required to have their own laptop for the workshop. \nPlease contact the organizers (email us) in case of any questions.\nNote s for Participants\nTo participate in discussions online for the workshop we use a slack channel. You should receive a slack invite via email before the workshop. Make sure to join. All software training related communicat ion should be made via slack.\nMake sure you complete the setup instructio n below BEFORE the event. Should there be any questions\, please ask in th e Slack channel.\nTo participate in the workshop\, you will need access to the software described under "prerequisites". In addition\, you will need an up-to-date web browser.\nPrerequisites\nFor a video walk-through of th e installation process\, please visit the indico page of our previous even t.\nThe Bash Shell\nBash is a commonly-used command line interpreter that gives you the power to do simple tasks more quickly.\nGit\nGit is a versio n control system that lets you track who made changes to what when and has options for easily updating a shared or public version of your code on g ithub.com. You will need a supported web browser.\nYou will need an accou nt at github.com for parts of the Git lesson. Basic GitHub accounts are free. We encourage you to create a GitHub account if you don't have one al ready. Please consider what personal information you'd like to reveal. For example\, you may want to review these instructions for keeping your ema il address private provided at GitHub.\nText Editor\nWhen you're writing code\, it's nice to have a text editor that is optimized for writing code\ , with features like automatic color-coding of key words. The default text editor on macOS and Linux is usually set to Vim\, which is not famous for being intuitive. If you accidentally find yourself stuck in it\, hit the Esc key\, followed by : + q + ! (colon\, lower-case 'q'\, exclamation mark )\, then hitting Return to return to the shell. This will quit without sav ing any change.\nPython\nPython is a popular language for research comput ing\, and great for general-purpose programming as well. Installing all of its research packages individually can be a bit difficult\, so we recomme nd Anaconda\, an all-in-one installer.\nRegardless of how you choose to i nstall it\, please make sure you install Python version 3.x (e.g.\, 3.9+ is fine).\nWe will teach Python using the Jupyter notebook\, a programmin g environment that runs in a web browser. For this to work you will need a reasonably up-to-date browser. The current versions of the Chrome\, Safar i and Firefox browsers are all supported (some older browsers\, including Internet Explorer version 9 and below\, are not).\n \nInstructors\n\nMar co Mambelli (Fermilab)\nAndres Rios-Tascon (Princeton University)\nGuiller mo Fidalgo (University of Alabama)\n\n \nOrganising committee:\n\nRicha S harma (UPRM)\nValeriia Lukashenko (University of Zurich)\nAndres Rios-Tasc on (Princeton University)\nAlexander Moreno (Universidad Antonio Nariño)\ nAleida Perez (BNL)\nSalvador Gonzalez (BNL)\nSharon Pepenella (BNL)\nMich el Hernandez-Villanueva (BNL)\n\n \n \n\nhttps://indico.cern.ch/event/16 83420/ LOCATION: END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:USCMS Collaboration Meeting DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20260602 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20260605 UID:185035114675 DESCRIPTION:USCMS Collaboration Meeting LOCATION:University of Maryland\, College Park\, MD 20742\, USA END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Training WG Planning Meeting DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260608T140000Z DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260608T150000Z UID:220230958854 DESCRIPTION:Event URL: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1671941/\n\nhttps://in dico.cern.ch/event/1671941/\n\nZoom: https://cern.zoom.us/j/62271073876?pw d=cFlvVCs1RUlVWTd4UlVJSFNQQU1LQT09 LOCATION:Virtual (CERN) END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
