Year 7/8 Mathex

A group of students have been selected represent Ellerslie School in the annual Year 7 and 8 Mathex Competition held by the Auckland Mathematics Association. Mathex is an annual maths quiz competition where teams of four mathematicians have to solve 20 problem-solving questions in 30 minutes. It is a very exciting event and an excellent experience for the students to be involved in. Details of the Event:When: Thursday 21 August 2025Where: Barfoot & Thompson Stadium, 203 Kohimarama Road, Kohimarama (next to Selwyn College)Arrival time: 6.15 - 6.30pm (Both Year 7 and Year 8 need to arrive at this time. Please do not arrive before 6.15pm) On arrival: Meet the Ellerslie School teachers in the stadium foyerYear 7 quiz starts: 7.15pm / finishes 8.00pm Year 8 quiz starts: 8.15pm / finishes 9.00pm Wear: Full School Uniform including plain black closed in shoes (the runner for each team may choose to wear their P.E. gear)Bring: Drink bottle and calculatorParking: Allow plenty of time as there are hundreds of people involved. Try to park away from the stadium and walk if possible. We strongly recommend carpooling with friends.Parents are invited and encouraged to stay to watch this event. All spectators are required to sit upstairs during the quiz. Being an evening event parents/caregivers are responsible for transporting their children to and from the venue. We would also welcome parent support in collecting answers from the students. Please fill in the permission form below ASAP.
