Janice Shapiro - book event for "Honoria" with music by Sunset Chet

Honoria: A Fortuitous Friendship, Janice Shapiro's first graphic novel, is fresh off the press from Fantagraphics. R. Crumb has praised it as, "A very compelling story. I couldn't put it down. A great graphic novel!"    It's the summer of 1929 when 9 year old Ida is sent by her dad to spend the summer with the daughter of his friends, the Murphys, at their "Villa America" on the Cote d'Azur. That summer, the Murphys' 9 year old, Honoria, becomes Ida's mentor, tormentor, and, ultimately, her friend as they navigate the curious sea of grown ups that come and go from Gerald and Sara Murphy's seaside refuge -- folks like Ernest Hemingway, Cole Porter, Dorothy Parker, Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald, Picasso and their ilk. Janice's comics and short stories have been published in numerous publications and anthologies; Bummer and Other Stories was published by Soft Skull Press in 2010. Janice lives in Berkeley with her husband and dog.  Sunset Chet is a country musician and songwriter living and performing in San Francisco's Mission District. His songs include, “I Took Half A Pill In Vacaville" and “Stop Playing Mind Games With My Heart.” Sunset Chet's first album, featuring Arjun Dube (Trap Rabbit, fkj), Matteo Battistini (Taxi Vision, The Stones (not those “Stones”). Hype Itemson (Half) is forthcoming in 2025.
