A Rocket Lab Electron rocket topped with a modified upper stage will launch on a HASTE (Hypersonic Accelerator Suborbital Test Electron) suborbital mission, for the U.S. Defense Department's Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) HyCat project. Aboard will be a scramjet-powered hypersonic test vehicle for Australian company Hypersonix, called DART AE. It's a 3m long, 300kg mass hydrogen fueled scramjet-powered technology demonstrator that can reach speeds of up to Mach 7 (8350 km/h), according to Hypersonix. This mission will also demonstrate HASTE's direct inject capabilities, which means that the payload will be deployed while the rocket is still ascending. Rocket Lab's mission will be named "?".
