Understanding and removing potential barriers to participation for different members, especially with less privileges than others is an essential step to support inclusivity in research.HOW?A 3 hour safe space and interactive virtual training session for individuals working in research and research-adjacent roles. This workshop has been designed to equip leaders with practical skills they can build through group discussions, accessible resources and inclusive facilitation.Being an open leader requires a deep understanding of Ally Skills, which can be learned only through practice. In our workshop we create supportive spaces to explore our context, privileges and concrete ways to step up for others in a meaningful and effective way.Among other topics, we will cover concepts of power and privileges, and how everyday allyship can help in building better teams and communitiesWHO IS IT FOR? Basically ANYONE! But it'd be specially interesting for:Mentors and educatorsManagers and leadersCommunity leaders and open contributors--The Open Life Science team members have been trained under Frameshift Consulting and have previously conducted ally workshops at European Molecular Biology Laboratory,This workshop in part of a collaboration with the Software Sustainability Institute, as part of our support with their mentorship programme.--This workshop is free to attend but we do encourage solidarity payments to cover accessibility microgrants for members interested in participating at this event who would otherwise not be able to attend.Please contact team@we-are-ols.org to request an accessibility microgrant, or if you have any questions about the event.
