A Chinese Long March (Chang Zheng) CZ-2D rocket will launch four PIESAT formation-flying SAR satellites for the Hangtian Hongtu constellation into orbit. This fourth group of satellites consists of one 320kg main sat (named Zhongyuan 2?) and three 270kg accompanying sats (named ?), that operate in the X-Band using very long baseline interferometry. They are also designated as PIESAT/Hongtu 2-05 to 2-08. These satellites make up the first wheel-pattern satellite formation, with the master satellite in the center of an imaginary hub and the three assistant satellites distributed evenly on the spokes. The formation uses phase synchronization and inter-satellite communication links to enable accurate orbit control, ensuring its stability and spatial safety. According to GalaxySpace the wheel-pattern formation, in comparison to conventional interferometric satellite systems, has the advantages of a relatively stable formation configuration, multiple interference baselines, and high mapping efficiency. These satellites' millimeter-level deformation monitoring capability, which can provide data support for the investigation and prevention of land subsidence, collapse, landslides, and other disasters, makes them a powerful tool for early identification of major geological hazards in complex areas. The CZ-2D launcher will fly with a 3.8m composite fairing. - Delayed from Mar. 15 and May 16.
