A United Launch Alliance Vulcan rocket, designated ?, will launch the U.S. Air Force’s ninth third-generation navigation satellite for the Global Positioning System, designated GPS III Space Vehicle 09 (GPS III SV09, named Ellison Onizuka) into Medium Earth Orbit. Vulcan will fly in the VC2S vehicle configuration with a double-engine Centaur upper stage, two solid rocket boosters and a standard fairing.
