A SpaceX Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket will launch three O3b mPOWER broadband internet satellites into Medium Earth Orbit for SES of Luxembourg. The satellites, built by Boeing, will provide internet services over most of the populated world, building on SES’s O3b network. - Built by Boeing the O3b mPower satellites are improved second generation satellites for the SES owned O3b Networks. Each satellite features newly redesigned power modules that address the previous electrical issues experienced by the first six O3b mPOWER satellites, which will act as spares. The ~2050kg second generation satellites are very high-throughput satellites, making it a terabit-per-second constellation. The constellation will have 30000 fully-shapeable and steerable beams that can be shifted and switched in real time to align with customers’ quickly changing growth opportunities. The satellites feature an all-electric propulsion system and were built using electronics from Boeing's flight-proven BSS-702X satellite platform customized to support the unique MEO environment for at least 10 years of service life. The second generation satellites will introduce a second orbit of the same orbital height, but at an inclination of 70° for near-global coverage. The equatorial constellation will feature up to 24 satellites and the inclined orbit constellation up to 16. - Delayed from 2023. Moved forward from July. Delayed from June.
