An ISRO L40 rocket will launch an advanced prototype of the Gaganyaan spacecraft on an uncrewed suborbital test flight for ISRO. Designated TV-D2 (Test Vehicle Demonstration 2) the mission will be a high altitude abort test as part of the Gaganyaan program. The spacecraft will be launched to 11km above sea level at a speed of more than Mach 2, where an in-flight abort scenario will be initiated and the capsule is expected to rise to 15–16km apogee. The mission will test the separation from the rocket and its trajectory until a safe distance and parachute deployment. The capsule will have the same mass as the crewed version and will be the refurbished Crew Module from TV-D1, with added equipment. The capsule will include crew heat systems, a post-splashdown CM uprighting system, and even seats for the crew. The rocket is based on the L40 booster of the GSLV Mk.II launcher. - Delayed from December, April 24 and late 2024.
