The Saturday before the Great Feast of Pentecost is a Memorial Saturday, identical in structure to "Meatfare Saturday" that is associated with the pre-Lenten "Sunday of the Last Judgment." Pentecost, as the establishment of the long-promised New Covenant life of God's People in the inbreaking of the Holy Spirit, is also about "the end" or "last things." Pentecost is a sign that the world to come is here, and so we remember the departed who will share in the fullness of that New World and Age.
