DESCRIPTION:July 27th is the Commemoration of the dukhrono of St. Osio +37
7 according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church.\n\nM
or Osio was born to God fearing Christian parents who were childless for m
any years. They prayed unceasingly to have a child\, & God blessed them wi
th Osio. An angel appeared to a monk named Mark\, telling him to baptize t
he child with the name Osio (Syriac for doctor)\, for God will work many w
onders through the child. \n\nHis parents wanted him to marry the governor
's daughter\, but Osio refused. He left to Jerusalem\, desiring to give up
worldly comforts\, choosing to follow the divine path instead. Eventually
\, Osio was ordained as a priest. He then journeyed to Mount Sinai where h
e stayed for sometime\, finally reaching the Kafra desert. It was here tha
t he met Mor Dimet\, becoming his disciple. Mor Osio stayed with Mor Dimet
for 14 years until the latter's demise.\n\nOsio was well known for his pr
ayerful life\, strict asceticism & most importantly his fasting. He evange
lized many & carried out great charity work. Thousands of individuals foll
owed Christ after hearing his preaching. Osio traveled to Homs\, Antioch &
Nicodemia\, healing the sick & protecting the villagers from wild animals
. After returning to Antioch from Nicodemia\, Osio realized his end was ne
ar. He called his students to his deathbed & said\, “Children\, I am goi
ng. As long as you live on this earth\, do not deviate from the path I hav
e taught you. Be careful not to fall into faulty ways. Continue worshippin
g God. Always tread the path of virtue & purity. This world and everything
in it are mere shadows.” Mor Osio left for the heavenly abode in AD377.
His dukhrono is a major feast for the Syriac Orthodox faithful of Aleppo
on October 15th.\n\nBiography courtesy of\, 'Martyrs\, Saints and Prelates
