T he parable reminds us as we enter this week that it is only through a life of dedication to God\, vigilance\, fasting & prayer can we be ready for t he Resurrection & to welcome the Bridegroom into our lives. \n\nThe servic e commences with a procession with all lights off & the curtain of the alt ar drawn closed. The clergy and the faithful hold lit candles during the p rocession which gives the service its name. The procession may be done ins ide the church\, which concludes at the front of the closed altar\, or out side the church\, concluding at the front of the closed door. \n\nThe serv ice ends with a dramatic entrance into the altar resembling the entrance o f the wise virgins into heaven\; the celebrant stands in front of the clos ed curtain & chants the hymn 'al haw tar'o three times\, each time the dea cons & the faithful repeat after him. \n\nThen the priest shouts thrice "M oran\, Moran ftah lan tar'okh!" (O Lord\, O Lord\, open Thy door for us!) after which the lights in the church are turned on and simultaneously the curtain is opened. The clergy enter the altar with a hymn of rejoice\, acc ompanied by the ringing of the bells\, fanning of the marbaso & waving of the censer.\n\nThe Holy Bible readings from the Church Lectionary:\n\nEven ing:\nSt. Luke 19:41-20:8\n\nMidnight\n1st Kaumo:\nSt. Matthew 21:33-46\n2 nd Kaumo\nSt. Luke 14:12-24\n\nVadhe Dhalmeeno\nSt. Matthew 25:1-13\n3rd K aumo:\nSt. Matthew 22:1-14\n\nMorning:\nGenesis: 22:1-14\nII Kings 17:7-15 \nJudges 11:30-40\nIsaiah 28:5-13\nActs 25:6-12\nHebrews 1:6-2:4\nMatthew 21:23-32\, 17:10-13\n \n3rd Hour:\nSt. Mathew 19:1-12\nSt. Luke 9:43-45\n \n6th Hour:\nSt. Matthew 22:41-23:12\n\n9th Hour\nSt. Matthew 23:13-39\n\n Tone of the Day: Passion Week Tones (Hashonoyo)\n\nHoly Monday English Pra yers: https://bit.ly/PassionMonday\n\n\nSyriac Prayers: https://tinyurl. com/3pdtzvzf \n\nWa'de dalmino:\n\nExplanation of the service by Ranya Ku cukkaplan: https://tinyurl.com/44nh3495 \n\nExplanation in Malayalam: ht tps://drive.google.com/file/d/14aUYjNIPbs10DGlIklWjQIgQXbsBvLfP/view?usp=d rivesdk\n\nThe Symbol of the “Coming to the Harbour” in the Syriac Tra dition: http://bit.ly/HarbourSyriac\n\nThe "Opening of the Door" Ceremony on Palm Sunday in the Armenian Church: http://bit.ly/NahireArmenian\n\nEng lish-Syriac Service book in Ma'De'Dono: https://tinyurl.com/yp3cu2j3 \n\ nSyriac Service Booklet from Ma'De'Dono: https://tinyurl.com/44puf8c9\n\n Malayalam Service Booklet: https://bit.ly/VadheDhalmeenoMal \n\nManglish -English Service Booklet: https://bit.ly/ManglishMidLentVadheFeet (https:/ /goo.gl/fpWLBy) \n\nNaheera Service video from St. John The Baptist Syria c Orthodox Church.
