  of contemporary American politics\, the film follows Kinzinger’s decisi
 on to speak out about threats to democratic norms — and the consequences
  that follow. Intimate and unsparing\, The Last Republican explores cons
 cience\, party loyalty\, political courage\, and the cost of dissent withi
 n a polarized nation\, offering a timely meditation on what it means to de
 fend democratic principles when doing so comes at personal and political r
 isk.  Kinzinger was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2011 a
 s a Republican. When Trump rallied his followers to besiege the US capital
  on January 6\, 2021\, Kinzinger was among ten Republicans who voted to im
 peach the president for instigating an insurrection. He then served on the
  Congressional committee to investigate what happened on January 6.  Thi
 s vital\, surprisingly funny film offers a modern portrait of courage\, sh
 owing that thoughtful\, civil dialogue between people with opposing politi
 cal views is possible. Filmed during Kinzinger’s final year in office\, 
 The Last Republican follows his decision to put country over career — 
 publicly demanding accountability for Donald Trump’s role in the January
