 tract:\n\nThis presentation will go through the timeline of artificial\nin
 telligence\, from its early foundations to the systems shaping\ntoday’s 
 industries. This historical perspective provides context for\nhow intellig
 ent systems have developed and how their role has expanded\nover time. Bui
 lding on this foundation\, real-world use cases from\nindustry will be hig
 hlighted\, ranging from traditional machine\nlearning models to modern sol
 utions that make use of agentic\nworkflows. These examples illustrate how 
 AI has supported\ndecision-making\, automation\, and problem-solving acros
 s engineering\nand technical fields\, and how its applications continue to
  evolve\nbeyond today’s most visible technologies. As a recent graduate 
 now\nworking as a machine learning engineer\, the focus then shifts to the
 \nreality facing students and new professionals entering the workforce.\nR
 ather than viewing AI as something that replaces human workers\, the\nemph
 asis is on how using AI effectively can extend human capability\,\nincreas
 e productivity\, and create new opportunities. Drawing on\neveryday indust
 ry experience\, practical insights are shared into how\nAI tools can be in
 tegrated into daily workflows and how graduates can\nposition themselves t
 o work confidently alongside intelligent systems.\nBy linking the history 
 of AI\, its established role in industry\, and\nthe experience of a new pr
 ofessional in the field\, this session\ndelivers a clear message: those wh
 o learn to use AI effectively can\nset themselves as sought-after\, high-v
 alue\, and high-potential\nprofessionals in industry immediately after gra
 duation.\n\nBiography:\n\nRegan Shen is a Machine Learning Engineer and Da
 ta Scientist with a\nBSc Honours in Computer Science (Cum Laude) from the 
 University of\nPretoria\, where his research focused on metaheuristics\, g
 raph neural\nnetworks\, and deep learning. Originally starting his career 
 as a\nsoftware engineer\, he transitioned into machine learning\, building
  and\ndeploying production-ready AI systems that solve real-world problems
  —\nfrom AI agents and document intelligence systems to custom workflows
 \nfor automation and data extraction. Currently at Isazi\, Regan works on\
 napplied machine learning\, computer vision\, and AI solutions for\nindust
 ry\, bridging traditional ML approaches with modern AI workflows\nand shar
 ing practical insights on using AI effectively in the\nworkforce.
