The mission will carry four NASA science payloads\, two of them rovers. IM-3 will fly as a rideshare mission with Vestri\, Astro Forge's mission to a N ear Earth Asteroid and Altus 1\, the first data relay satellite for NASA's Space Network Services (NSNS) lunar communications network. The NSNS syst em will feature five spacecraft orbiting or in the vicinity of the moon to relay communications between spacecraft at the Moon and the Earth. IM-3 w ill land in the Reiner Gamma region\, an area of the Moon with a magnetic anomaly.\n-\nIM-3 is Nova-C’s third planned mission for NASA's CLPS prog ram. The four investigations that Intuitive Machines will deliver to Reine r Gamma are expected to weigh approximately 92kg and include: Lunar Vertex (LVx)\, which is one of NASA's Payloads and Research Investigations on th e Moon's Surface (PRISM) selections. It is a combination of stationary lan der payloads and a rover that will measure the magnetic field\, plasma env ironment\, and regolith properties in great detail. Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration (CADRE) is a team of mobile robots progra mmed to explore the lunar surface\, collect data\, and map various areas o f the Moon in 3D. ESA's MoonLIGHT retroreflector is a laser retroreflector that reflects laser beams sent from Earth directly back to Earth. This al lows for extremely accurate distance measurements between the reflector an d the ground station. The Lunar Space Environment Monitor (LUSEM) detects high-energy particles on the lunar surface using a pair of apertures. LUSE M will track changes in the near-surface space environment when the Moon i s inside and outside Earth's magnetotail\, which is the trailing end of th e magnetic fields that surround our planet and can act as a buffer for inc oming radiation.\nThe Nova-C lander masses 1900kg and is a six-sided struc ture three meters high by two meters wide. 130kg is available for payloads \, and the spacecraft is equipped with six landing legs. Solar panels are mounted on two of the Nova-C’s sides as well as the top of the lander\, and fuel tanks are mounted on two other sides. The remaining pair of sides can be used to mount payloads. The lander is equipped with a methane and liquid oxygen (methalox) main engine used for all major maneuvers. The eng ine\, known as the VR-900\, is capable of producing 4000 N of thrust.
