DESCRIPTION:March 21st is the anniversary of the demise of HG Mor Coorilos
  Kuriakose Poothicote +1995. Mor Coorilos was the former Metropolitan of N
 iranam\, Thumpamon & Kollam dioceses.\n\nGeorge Kurian was born in Mepral 
 on May 1st 1935 to Cherian George Poothicote & Annamma. After completing h
 igher education at UC College & CMS College\, he was ordained Quroyo by la
 te Mor Gregorios Geevarghese Vayaliparambil on May 8th 1956. He studied th
 eology under the tutelage of Raban Yac'ub (late Mor Julius Yac'ub Madappat
 t) & also the mentorship of late Arch Cor-Episcopo Kurian Kaniamparambil. 
 George was ordained Aphudykano by late Mor Athanasius Yeshu Samuel in 1961
  at Attamangalam Church. Mor Philexinos (late late Catholicos HB Mor Basel
 ius Paulose II of blessed memory) ordained him as Qashisho on February 2nd
  1962 at Piramadom Dayro. He was given the charge of St. John's Church Mep
 ral.\n\nOn July 21st 1974\, the thrice blessed late Patriarch HH Moran Mor
  Ignatius Yac'ub III of blessed memory consecrated him as Metropolitan wit
 h the title Coorilos at St. George Cathedral Damascus. He was given charge
  of the southern dioceses. Mor Coorilos toiled hard to maintain the true A
 postolic faith & allegiance to the Holy Throne of Antioch within the heart
 s of the faithful during turbulent times. Despite his ill health\, he play
 ed a prominent role in the litigations against the schismatics who were tr
 ying to destroy the dioceses in the south. \n\nMor Coorilos was an accompl
 ished orator & an able administrator who established many institutions inc
 luding Mor Dionysius Mikhayel ITC\, Mor Yulios Elias School among others. 
 He made arrangements to facilitate the thousands of faithful from Northern
  & central dioceses who came as pilgrims to Manjinikkara Dayro. Thirumeni 
 established a Kurisumthotty at Arunmula. Mor Coorilos was the director of 
 the Sunday School Association for over a decade.\n\nMor Coorilos began wor
 k to build a diocesan headquarters\, the Aramana at Adoor had been the fru
 it of Thirumeni’s strenuous efforts\, although Thirumeni did not have th
 e fortune of living there. On March 21st 1995\, Mor Coorilos Kuriakose Poo
 thicote reposed in the Lord. He was entombed in Mor Dionysius Mikhayel Day
 ro Adoor. He received the honorable title of ‘M’sbrono Nasiho’ (the 
 exemplary missionary) from the Holy Apostolic See of Antioch & all the Eas
 t for his dedicated service for the Holy Church.\n\nBiography courtesy of\
