DESCRIPTION:Three veteran FDNY firefighters died in the LODD in Brooklyn\,
  New York and the Bronx on Sunday January 23\, 2005\, a day that has becom
 e known as “Black Sunday” and called one of the saddest in fire depart
 ment history. The six Bronx firefighters became trapped in the building wh
 ile searching for people on the fourth floor. When the fire from the third
  floor broke through to the fourth\, they were faced with a horrifying cho
 ice. They jumped out a fourth-floor window\, knowing that they would be cr
 itically injured.\n\nTwo firefighters were killed and four others were bad
 ly hurt when they were forced to jump from a fourth-floor window of a burn
 ing building in the Bronx.  Later that day another FDNY Firefighter was ki
 lled in a two –alarm basement fire in Brooklyn.\n\nA couple of major iss
 ues were highlighted in the fire in the Bronx.  IN 2000 FDNY stopped issui
 ng bailout ropes so the firefighters.  Between all 6 FF’s only one had r
 ope.  Since then FDNY has begun issung ropes again.  This fire also highli
 ghted the problem of illegally subdivided apartments.  This apartment was 
 illegally subdivided and as a result not all areas had access to the fire
