The Holy Eucharist of this Great Feast, celebrating the presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ to God at the Jerusalem temple, where the Holy Family was met by the Prophet St. Simeon and the Prophetess Anna. This feast is the capstone of the Nativity cycle of services. Since the emphasis of this feast is upon Christ as the "light to the Gentiles, and the glory of my people Israel" (the words of St. Simeon in Luke 2:28-32) on this day we bless candles!
