Facilitated by Stefanie Attardi, Ph.D., Jickssa Gemechu, Ph.D., Anna Karamyan, Ph.D., Saima Mansuri, M.D. and Paul Megee, Ph.D.This program is designed for foundational science and clinical faculty committed to enhancing their assessment quality. It combines a self-paced video with a live, hands-on workshop to master the art of NBME-style question writing, with a special emphasis on leveraging and critically reviewing items created using Generative AI.In this highly interactive, hands-on session, attendees will bring their pre-generated draft questions to the table. Working in interdisciplinary teams, faculty will engage in a rigorous peer-review “autopsy” of these items. The focus is on critically evaluating and collaboratively revising these AI-generated questions to ensure they are accurate, well-structured, test appropriate high-level concepts, and fully align with NBME standards.Learning ObjectivesAt the end of this two-part series, participants will be able to: Identify the key components and structure of high-quality, NBME-style multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Differentiate between well- and poorly-written test items using NBME item-writing guidelines. Design and refine effective prompts for using generative AI tools to brainstorm and create high-quality, NBME-style exam questions. Critically evaluate and revise AI-generated exam items to ensure accuracy, alignment with learning objectives, and adherence to NBME question-writing standards. Appreciate the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork for creating and maintaining a pool of high-quality assessment items for a course.
