Session 3 - Understanding by Design with Cody Bailey-CrowDesigning an impactful medical curriculum requires starting with the end in mind - focusing on what learners must truly understand and apply in clinical practice rather than simply what topics to cover. Based on the framework established by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe in Understanding by Design (UbD), this 1-hour virtual session introduces medical school faculty, staff, and students to the practice of "Backward Design." Participants will explore the three-stage design process: identifying desired clinical outcomes, determining acceptable evidence of understanding, and planning targeted learning experiences.
