Itty Thommen Kathanar +1659

Anjilimoottil Itty Thommen Kathanar is one of the most noteworthy leaders of the Malankara church who bravely resisted the Roman Catholic Portuguese persecutions in the 17th century. He was the chief adviser & the close aide of the then head of the Syriac Christians, Thomas Archedyaqno (who was later ordained MarThoma I Metropolitan). After the historic ‘Koonan Kurishu Sathyam’ of 1653, Fr. Itty Thommen & Archedyaqno Thoma provided great leadership to end the Portuguese dominance over the Malankara Syriac Christians, thus paving way for the re-establishment of the apostolic faith & traditions of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India. Fr. Itty Thommen was a bright star amongst the Knanaya (Urfalee) community of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India.
