Harvey Waldman, reading from his new book of poems, Shopping Lists for the Apocalypse; filled with memories, postcards, pathos, and humor from a journey over the last 70 years. Born in the Bronx after the Second World War, he fled to Northern California as a teenager for the Summer of Love. Dismissed from UC Berkeley for activism, was a founding member of the Berkeley AgitProp street theatre, a dishwasher, farm worker, refinery boilermaker, taxi driver, barista, herb grower, shopping mall Santa Claus. Lead actor in 1976 feature film Off the Wall, shot in the Bay Area. A father in need of a career, he spent over forty years in film and TV production, culminating as Producer of the TV series Mildred Pierce and Manifest. All while poetry lurked, a passionate, unkempt cousin long ignored. He currently resides in Northern Italy and New York. Employing metaphors from history, pop culture, physics, music, gardening and the Tarot, Waldman makes the case for hope and survival, thrilled to be reading in the City once his home.
