Apostle Mor Ya`qub, son of Alphaeus

On MASOCNA Calendar October 9th is the commemoration of the dukhrono of St. James the Apostle according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church. Mor Yac'ub bar'halpphai was also known as James the less to differentiate him from James the son of Zebedee (James the greater). St. James is the son of Alphaeus & Miriam (relative of St. Mary the mother of God). After Pentecost, he preached the Gospel in Gaza, Sur, Arabia, & Egypt. He performed many miracles, converting a multitude to the faith. He was crucified in Egypt by the pagans. Thus St. James the Apostle attained the crown of martyrdom. Oh Mor Yac'ub Sleeho! Plead for us before God's throne of grace. Amen
