Yule ~ Winter Solstice (Mother Night) The longest night of the year, when the light is symbolically reborn and the days begin to lengthen again. The darkness, in the form of the Holly King, still reigns, but it begins its decline, as the light begins its ascendancy. The Goddess returns from the Underworld. She travails and bears her Son, the Sun Child. The Goddess' ascent from the tomb mirrors the coming forth of the Sun Child from the darkness of her womb. The Goddess then takes on her Crone (old woman) aspect. Light: Rebirth of Light God and Goddess: The Goddess wakes from her sleep to bear her Son - the God who died at Samhain as the Dark King is reborn as the Child of Light. Gods of Light and Darkness: Though the God of Darkness still reigns, the God of Light is reborn as the Light Child. The Wild Hunt and the Tree Kings: The Holly King is crowned and sacrificed by his light aspect, the Oak King. December 20th - 23rd ~ O° degrees Capricorn
