Textbooks remain a vital tool in education, offering a structured and efficient way to deliver complex concepts across various learning areas. With students reading less than ever before, fostering text literacy has become increasingly important. Textbooks provide a consistent and comprehensive resource to support learning, but their effectiveness relies on how they are used in the classroom. This workshop delves into strategies for using textbooks effectively, integrating high-impact teaching practices to enhance student engagement, comprehension, and retention when working with text. Key topics for this workshop include: Understanding theories and approaches for facilitating the rehearsal of conceptual information, including Dual Coding Theory and sentence-level writing. Exploring high-impact strategies to teach conceptual information through text. Learning two additional strategies to engage students with written text at a whole- class level.
