Happy International Women's Day!Whom greater to emulate than the holiest of women, the Virgin St. Mary the mother of God. More honorable than the Cherubim, & more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim. The Ark of Mysteries which contained the water of Life, St. Mary is a role model not just for women but for the entire world. This Syriac Church gives great importance to women. From the time of our Lord Jesus to today, the contributions of women preaching the Good News of the Heavenly Kingdom are innumerable. Countless female saints gave their life for our Lord & many labored to spread the Gospel throughout the globe. "He sent word to His Apostles by the women that He had risen; it was not from Simon that the women received the tidings, but they who gave them to Simon; from women was the beginning of His course, His birth, His resurrection and the news of His resurrection." - The final stanza of the madrosho of Sunday's midnight prayers (Qawmo II) in the Syriac Orthodox Sh'himo (Pampakuda/Indian text).Though not permitted to the ordained ministry, women of all ages have always been an essential part of the history of Christianity and the spread of the Holy Gospel. From St. Mary, to evangelists and female martyrs, women have laid the seeds for the growth of the faith. Today as the world celebrates Women's Day, take a moment to pray for the women in your life & the women of the Holy Church including the nuns, deaconess', & teachers.
