Generating Accurate Captions and Transcripts Using AI Tools

Facilitated by Cody Bailey-CrowSession Description: While automated speech-to-text tools have revolutionized multimedia production, raw AI outputs fall short of the strict compliance standards mandated by ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 AA. This session explores how faculty and staff can leverage modern AI tools to jumpstart multimedia accessibility while maintaining the rigorous precision required for specialized medical education. Participants will practice workflows for converting raw auto-generated captions into accurate transcripts, thus meeting Title II compliance requirements. The second hour provides a hands-on open studio to audit, edit, and remediate the captions and transcripts of your own video lectures, institutional podcasts, or clinical demonstration recordings in real time.Learning Objectives:  Evaluate and select appropriate AI-driven captioning and transcription platforms (Panopto, Yuja, and YouTube) and recognize the limitations of raw automated speech recognition in medical contexts.Practice reviewing and editing AI-generated captions to ensure 100% accuracy, proper formatting, and speaker identification for complex clinical terminology and anatomical terms.Establish a streamlined multimedia workflow that meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards for synchronized captions and descriptive transcripts across institutional learning platforms.Understand best-practices in audio-recording discipline and how to achieve them for both in-person and remotely-recorded sessions. Date & Time: October 22 (1:00-3:00pm)
