Located in the 'ili of 'Āhuimanu within the ahupua'a of Kahalu'u, this ancient Hawaiian agricultural complex is the largest intact terraced lo'i system on O'ahu & the best example of Kanaka Maoli expertise in this type of engineering. It is our mission to mālama the people, resources, history, wahi pana, and community well being of the Kahaluʻu ahupua’a on Oʻahu. Our vision is to be an established collective of voices to advocate for the Kahaluʻu community. TO BE PREPAREDStudents may assist with vegetation clearance, maintenance, and/or out-planting using a variety of hand and power tools depending on level of skill and the assigned tasks for the day. Due to State requirements, we are only allowed to welcome a limited number of volunteers, one of those volunteers must be an archaeologist to monitor work and be present in case of any inadvertent findings.Please bring the following items with you on the workday: WaterCovered clothing–long sleeve and pantsSturdy covered shoes with grip (REQUIRED) Bug repellent, sun and or rain protection strongly recommendedOptional: Hat, Towel, Change of ClothesLight refreshments will be provided, potluck (sharing snacks) is encouragedPlease bring a reusable water bottle & mess kitHereʻs an additional list of things to bring if you have them: Loppers, Pick Shovel, Hand Saws, Chain Saws (Only those that are certified with their own safety equipment & gas/oil) Rake, Tarp, Pullerbear, Garden GlovesPARKING AND ACCOMMODATIONS: Parking is limited, please carpool as much as possible and park on the makai side of the street.
