Our guest speaker is Prof Armanda Bastos, Director: Hans Hoheisen Research Centre, Department of Veterinary Tropical Diseases, Department of Zoology and Entomology.In her talk entitled "Foot-and-mouth disease virus persistence and the regulatory implications of carrier animals" she will share their findings from a recently completed project at the intersection of politics, farming, conservation, and meat lovers. It calls for a revision of current slaughter regulations at both national and international levels. This is very important for a country such as ours where >60% of households experience food insecurity.
