Atlas V 551 • ViaSat 3-F2

A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, designated AV-100, will launch the ViaSat 3-F2 (VS-3 F2) satellite into GTO. ViaSat 3-F2 is the second of at least three new-generation Boeing-built geostationary satellites for Viasat. Due to technical difficulties with F1 that significantly lowered its capacity, once F2 is launched it will cover the Americas, and F1 will be moved to the EMEA region. Atlas will fly in the 551 vehicle configuration with a five-meter fairing, five GEM-63 solid rocket boosters and a single-engine Centaur upper stage. Mission profile video: https://youtu.be/ldX_Z7KfNq4 https://x.com/ulalaunch/status/1983873846915830002 - The 6.4 tonne Viasat 3-F2 (VS-3 F2) satellite is as big as a school bus, and its solar panels will unfurl in orbit to generate more than 30 kilowatts of power in orbit. The spacecraft has one of the largest antenna reflectors ever sent into space, and will rely on all-electric propulsion for fine orbital maneuvers and station-keeping. The ViaSat 3 constellation of high capacity broadband satellites for ViaSat Inc consists of three satellites for global coverage. Boeing was selected to provide the all-electric propulsion BSS-702MP+ (originally BSS-702HP were to be used) busses, while the communications payloads were built by ViaSat. Each ViaSat 3 class satellite is expected to offer over 1 Terabit per second (Tbps) of total network capacity to deliver a global broadband network with enough bandwidth to deliver affordable, high-speed, high-quality internet and video streaming services. - Delayed from March, June, July, September 2022, March 31, September 2023, Q1, June, December 2024, March and Nov. 4. Scrubbed on Nov. 6 and 7.
