Midland activity - counts for up to 4 hours of serviceREGISTRATION REQUIREDSign up with MINA on the MINA Activity RegistrationBe sure to sign in with Kauluakalana on site before the day beginsACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONUlupō ("Night of Inspiration") Heiau was one of the first sacred temples to have been built as a māpele (agricultural) heiau by the first people or menehune, and dedicated to Kāneulupō. KAULUAKALANA--the organization that cares for Ulupō--is a community-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2019 by kamaʻāina of Kailua, those who have been raised by the lands and leaders of their ahupuaʻa to chart and navigate a course leading to kanaka (people) and ʻāina (land) reunited in a relationship that feeds us physically, intellectually, culturally, and spiritually. Traveling in the wake of those who came before, we are committed to ʻāina restoration and education, cultural revitalization, community regeneration, identity reclamation, and the renewal of kuleana in Kailua, one of the most storied ahupuaʻa on Oʻahu. To learn more about the organization, visit their website kauluakalana.org and stay connected by following their Instagram @kauluakalanaTO BE PREPAREDCome prepared to work in the lo'i kalo and wetland bird habitat. Wear clothes that can get muddy for work in the lo'i. Closed shoes are required both for lo'i and dryland work. Bring water, gloves, bug repellent, sun screen, snacks, change of clothes, and MESS KIT!DIRECTIONS From Honolulu, take the Pali Hwy, which continues as Kalaniana'ole Highway and then as Kailua Rd. Pass the Castle Medical Center and turn left on Uluoa Street. Take the first right on Manu Aloha St. At the end of that road (1 block), turn right on Manu Oo St. which ends by the Windward YMCA.
