Soyuz 2.1a • Obzor-R 1

A Roscosmos Soyuz 2.1a rocket will launch a semi-civilian X-band radar Earth observation satellite, designated Obzor-R №1 , into orbit. The synthetic aperture radar has a ground resolution of 500m and can observe targets at night and under clouds. The satellite will be joined by an unknown number of rideshare payloads, including a possible Iranian Earth observation satellite. - Obzor-R is was designed by TsSKB-Progress. In 2012, the development of the Arkon-2M radar satellite was stopped and instead the development of the Obzor-R was initiated. The satellite features the BRLK X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar as imaging instrument with a ground resolution of 500m and has a designed service life of 5 years. - Delayed from late December 2023, May and July 2024, Q3, Dec. 11 and 23.
