Ascension of our Lord (suloqo)

The commemoration of the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord (Suloqo d-Moran) according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church. Ascension falls annually on the Thursday following the fifth Sunday after Easter (fourth Sunday after New Sunday). At the conclusion of the Quqalyon of the Blessed Virgin during the celebration of the Holy Qurbono, the clergy and the deacons descend from the sanctuary to the chancel. The priest takes the cross from the stand where it has been since Easter Sunday. He carries it in his hand in a procession that starts from the northern door of the sanctuary and ends at the southern door, followed by the readings from the Epistle of Saint Paul (Ephesians 4:1-16) and the Gospels (Luke 24:45-53), after which the Order of Zuyoho (hawde malakhe) takes place. During the responses, instead of ‘Crucified for us,’ say ‘He who ascended into heaven.'Explanation of the Ascension service courtesy of 'Syriac Orthodox Resources' website: http://sor.cua.edu/Feast/Ascension.htmlThe Holy Bible readings from the Church Lectionary:Evening:St. Luke 24:36-53Morning:St. Luke 24:36-53John 17:13-26Before Holy Qurbono:Deuteronomy 9:26-10:5I Samuel 9:15-10:1Jeremiah 31:31-34Ezekiel 10:18-22Isaiah 48:20-49:4Holy Qurbono:Acts 1:1-11Ephesians 4:1-16I Timothy 3:16Mark 16:14-20For sermons/commentaries based on the Gospel reading: https://goo.gl/W8NzDSTone of Day: 5Syriac prayers for Suloqo: https://tinyurl.com/4hnkszsr Malayalam service book for the Feast of the Ascension (Swargarojana perunaal): https://tinyurl.com/2sy53j6bEnglish (unofficial): https://tinyurl.com/2p9w2znc
