Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

The Sixth Sunday of the middle cycle after Easter (had'bshabo shtit'hoyo d'mes'oye d'Qymtho) according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church. In St. Mark's Gospel, our Lord is confronted by the pharisees who claim He must be a devil Himself, after seeing Christ cast out an evil spirit. They cannot stand to see Christ performing miracles nor his teaching which goes against theirs. Our Lord rebukes them repeating the parable, "How can Satan cast out Satan And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand." Christ then continues saying, "But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation." This week, let us never allow ourselves to be filled with such contempt for Christ, His Church or the miracles which occur within the Churches lest we be guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Instead may our faith in God be strengthened and our sins forgiven.
