Gospel Saturday (Saturday of Good Tidings)

The Saturday of Good Tidings or Saturday of Light (S'habtho D'Nuhro) according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara. Today the Church commemorates Christ's decent into Hades, sharing of the Gospel & the releasing of the souls of all who were held captive by death awaiting the promised Messiah. The good news of the resurrection & eternal life is shared with all including Adam. Through His incarnation, life & death, Christ has fulfilled the Divine will for the salvation of mankind. Following Holy Qurbono the faithful hold special prayers (aneedhe) at the tombs of their departed loved ones. After the priest & deacons recite the common prayer for the departed, the faithful relatives of the deceased encircle the tomb in a counterclockwise direction asking their departed loved ones to plead for our sake before God almighty. During Vespers of Sunday (conducted on Saturday evening), there will be another service of reconciliation (shub'khono) to prepare us for the Feast of the Resurrection (Hido d'Qymtho).
