Fourth Sunday of Great Lent (Canaanite woman) (kna`nayto)

kna`naytoThe 'Fourth Sunday' of the Great Lent and Healing of the Cananite Woman's daughter (had'bshabo rbi'oyo d'sawmo, al kna'anoyto) according to the liturgical calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara. St. Matthew's Gospel recounts the meeting of Christ with the Cananite woman. She pleads to Christ to save her daughter who is vexed by the devil. She cries out, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David" She asks for nothing more but mercy from the Lord. We are all dependant on the mercy of Christ, for it is He alone who can comfort us. As a mother, her earnest prayer is for the wellbeing of her child. Today let us pray especially for our children, so that our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ may show mercy upon them. May they be healed of all afflictions which plague them spiritually, physically & emotionally.
