garbonoThe 'Second Sunday of the Great Lent' and Healing of the Leper (had'bshabo trayono d'sawmo, al garbono) according to the liturgical calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara. St. Luke's Gospel recounts the instances where Christ healed individuals suffering from various diseases. One of the most important miracles being the healing of the Leper. Leprosy at the time of Christ, was a terrible disease with a near total failure rate. To have leprosy was a death sentence due to the lack of adequate treatment we now have. Worse yet was that those who suffered from leprosy became social outcasts & rejected from their community. Those who had leprosy were thought to have so as a punishment from God for their sins. The Leper was in a state of continuous suffering, both physically and emotionally. However, in spite of his misfortune, his faith in Christ the healer was unshakeable. Our Lord didn't once hesitate to lay his hands on the Leper to heal him of his affliction. Often times in a time of suffering we lose faith & end up isolated from everyone. Instead, let us put our trust in Christ the healer as the heavenly physician will see our faith & save us from suffering. The Holy Bible readings from the Church Lectionary are:Evening:Mark 1:32-45Morning:Mathew 7:28-8:30Before Holy Qurbono :Genesis 7:6-19Isaiah 33:2-9Jeremiah 50:4-7; 15:15-21Holy Qurbono:Acts 9:22-31Romans 3:27-4:5St. Luke 5:12-16; 4:40-41For sermons/commentaries based on the Gospel: https://goo.gl/VWfA0rGreat Lent Day 7: https://goo.gl/FTG6qtTone of the Day: 2 (6 for alternate days of the week) Syriac Prayers: https://tinyurl.com/2ddbf6muGarbo Sunday hymns: https://goo.gl/WrxnvrGarbono Promiyon Sedro (Courtesy Hymonutho): https://bit.ly/3joHBN3
