Friday before Hosanna (40th Friday)

The 40th Friday of the Great Lent (Hrubto d'arbhin/Nalpatham Velliyazhcha) according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Malankara. The Holy Church gives special importance to the 40th Friday of Great Lent (Hrubto D'arbhin/Nalpatham velliyazhcha). On this day Holy Qurbono will be celebrated. Today's Gospel recounts the temptation of Christ by Satan, following Christ's 40 days of fasting in the wilderness. When the devil failed to defeat our Lord, he flees along with the other wild beasts. With a strengthened resolve, our Lord then begins His ministry of proclaiming the Good News of God's kingdom by choosing the first 4 apostles. Let us remind ourselves that we are all called to the ministry of the Gospel by the Christian life we live. In the midst of temptation & attempts by the devil to defer us from carrying out God's will, let us not be dismayed. May the fast be an undefeatable weapon against evil, & the sign of our victory over the sins of this world.
