Falcon 9 B5 • MRV-MEP

A SpaceX Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket will launch the MRV (Mission Robotic Vehicle) satellite servicer for Northrop Grumman into GTO, developed for DARPA's RSGS (Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites) program. The 3 tonne MRV was built by the Northrop Grumman-owned company SpaceLogistics. It is designed to attach up to 30 MEPs (Mission Extension Pods) to satellites in GEO over the course of its life. MEPs (Mission Extension Pods) are 400kg spacecraft designed to be captured by the MRV and then attached to a customer's satellite. A single MEP can extend a 2 tonne satellite's service life by up to 6 years. 2 of the MEPs on this flight will service satellites for Intelsat, while the third will service a satellite for Optus. The Falcon 9 booster is designated as B1069.32 for this mission and will be expended, so it's flying without recovery hardware. Webcast: https://www.spacex.com/launches/ https://spaceflightnow.com/
