Ascension Vigil

The Great Feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ commemorates our Lord Jesus Christ's departure from this world after his forty days of resurrection appearances wit his disciples. This feast expresses the absolute Lordship of Christ as Jesus is exalted and enthroned above every principality and power, as He ascends into the heavens. This feast also celebrates a command and a promise. The command is the "Great Commission"; just before his Ascension, Jesus commanded his Apostles to "go and make disciples of all peoples." The promise is the promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit, which will transform the community of disciples into a Living Temple of God's presence.
