Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

The Fourth Sunday of the middle cycle after Easter (had'bshabo rbi'oyo d'mes'oye d'Qymtho) according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Syriac Orthodox Church.Today's reading from St. Luke is once again the story of feeding the multitude of 5000 with just 5 loaves and two fish, as read in last week's Gospel of St. Matthew. St. Cyril of Alexandria in his homilies, has written about this passage in great detail. The following is just a small excerpt to meditate upon: "For the blessed disciples besought Christ that those who were following Him, having had their requests granted them, might be sent away, and disperse as they best could. But He commanded them to supply them with food. The thing, however, was impossible in the eyes of the disciples, for they had brought nothing with them but five loaves and two fishes: and this they drew near and confessed to Him. To magnify, therefore, the greatness of the miracle, and make it in every way evident that He is in His own nature God, He multiplies that little many times, and looks up to heaven to ask a blessing from above, being intent in this also upon our good. For He is Himself That which filleth all things, being the blessing that cometh from above from the Father."The Holy Bible readings from the Church Lectionary:Evening:Mark 9:30-41Morning: Matthew 20:17-28Before Qurbono:Exodus 23:14-19Zechariah 6:1-8Hosea 14:6-10Isaiah 40:27-31 Holy Qurbono: Acts 9:10-152 Corinthians 5:14-20St. Luke 9:10-17For sermons/commentaries based on the Gospel reading: https://goo.gl/dZQ41XMalayalam Sermon by Bar Etho Briro late Dr. Babu Paul IAS: https://youtu.be/W0e2Ep2KrvoTone of the Day: 4 (8 for alternate days of the week) Syriac prayers for Had'bshabo rbi'oyo d'mes'oye d'Qymtho: https://tinyurl.com/ycxyzxra http://www.malankaraworld.com/Library/sermons/Sermon-of-the-week_5th-sunday-after-Pentecost.htm
