Presented by:Jesse Bakke, Ph.D.Brianne Lewis, Ph.D.DescriptionIn this interactive session, participants will engage in an escape room experience followedby a guided discussion on integrating gamified learning into teaching. We will explore howgamified learning can create a thrilling and collaborative learning environment to sparklearner interest and soft skill development through game play. Participants will furtherexplore the nuance of game design strategies-- balancing entertainment, stress, andlearning outcomes. We will share strategies to streamline game development, including theuse of AI tools, and a design framework.ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, learners should be better able to:Value the potential of gamified learning to foster soft skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in the classroom.Explain effective strategies for developing gamified learning into course design, including selection of content areas.Compare and contrast strategies for using AI tools to support efficiency in the design, customization, and narrative construction in gamified learning.Use the MDA framework as a holistic approach to game design that considers not only learning outcomes, but also player engagement, emotional experience, and classroom dynamics.Identify and apply feasible approaches to implementing gamified learning activities within their own teaching contexts
