Invited Talk - Prof Jim Leebens-Mack

TITLE:  Computational investigations of trait, gene and genome evolution across the Tree of Life Phylogenomics" research includes the application of genome-scale data to infer species relationships and comparative analyses of genome structure and gene content within the context of a species phylogeny. Genome and transcriptome data are resolving relationships among plant species and guiding comparative genomic analyses of the evolution of gene content and genome structure across the green plant phylogeny. Moreover, comparative and functional genomic analyses are elucidating the molecular basis of variation in functional traits. The talk will cover how we are using comparative and functional genomics to identify genes contributing to parallel evolutionary innovations in a variety of metabolic, physiological and reproductive plant traits. Implications for plant diversification and synthetic plant biology will be discussed.
